Dr. Jonathan Blake Calcei
Accepting Appointments Starting August 31, 2026
Jonathan Blake Calcei, MD completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Pennsylvania Hospital in 2026. He was just awarded the “Collaborative Care Champion” Award at his graduation ceremony. The award recognizes outstanding leadership and dedication to multidisciplinary maternity care and it is awarded by their midwifery practice annually to one Resident Physician.
His training spans the full range of obstetric and gynecologic care. He manages deliveries of every type along with complex, high-risk antepartum courses, and he operates across a broad surgical range that reaches from open abdominal procedures to minimally invasive techniques. During his residency, Dr. Calcei also contributed to the quality of care beyond the bedside, serving on both the Obstetrical and Gynecology Quality Improvement Committees.
Teaching has run through his entire path in medicine. He worked as a lead tutor at his medical school, building individualized study plans for students through their preclinical years and into their clinical training. As a resident he taught medical students daily and provided intern education in surgical skills and the efficient use of electronic medical records. That commitment earned him the Hong-Aviles Medical Student Education award, and his clinical work has been recognized with the Gynecology Oncology Excellence Award and selection as an AAGL Honorary Resident.
Dr. Calcei earned his medical degree from Wright State University, where he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He brings a patient-centered approach to women’s health, caring for patients across every stage of their reproductive lives, from preventive care and family planning through pregnancy and delivery.
Things You Might Not Know About Me
TRAVEL MEMORIES: Italy: My wife Virginia and I recently traveled to Italy’s Tuscany region, where we spent our days visiting medieval villages, eating delicious food, and drinking the best wine. One day we were lucky enough to partake in Dario Cecchini’s famous “every-part-of-the-animal” lunch at Solociccia (check out season six of Netflix’s Chef’s Table). Scotland: While Virginia was in college she studied abroad in Scotland. While she was there, I visited her and took her on a week-long road trip through the highlands. We decided to climb up to the Old Man of Storr in early March. It was sunny (a miracle), but we almost got blown off the mountain. St. John, USVI: Virginia took me snorkeling for the first time and quite literally the second I put my head underwater I saw a school of cuttlefish and a stingray. We had a GoPro with us, and at the end of every day we took our GoPro and an identification book to the local restaurant and bar and reviewed the footage to try to identify all the fish we had seen. It felt like a treasure hunt.
