Dr. Scott Osmun
Dr. Scott Osmun is a board-certified Ob/Gyn physician who has been practicing in the Metropolitan DC area for over a decade. His interest in Medicine started at a young age and stemmed from a medical illness during his Freshman year of college. He completed his undergraduate studies at the College of William & Mary and received his medical degree from the Wayne State University School of Medicine in his home state of Michigan. Dr. Osmun moved to Washington DC for his Ob/Gyn Residency at George Washington University Hospital and finished in 2007.
As a Bloom provider, Dr. Osmun cares for women in all stages of their lives. This includes contraceptive management, preconception counseling, investigation of infertility for reproductive-aged women, evaluation and treatment of menopausal symptoms, as well as routine preventive medicine and the myriad of office-based gynecologic disorders. He also cares for a large number of high risk obstetrical patients, along with routine prenatal care. He operates at Sibley Memorial Hospital doing both major and minimally invasive Gynecologic procedures.
Things You Might Not Know About Me
PLACES I’VE LIVED: Brussels, Belgium; Williamsburg, VA; Detroit, MI; Washington DC
EDUCATION/TRAINING: The College of William & Mary; Wayne State University School of Medicine; George Washington University Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program
WHY OB/GYN? It’s such a unique field in Medicine. During the course of any given day, I might counsel someone regarding birth control, discuss treatment options for menopausal symptoms, provide advice to expecting mothers, and even squeeze in a delivery or two! I think the bond that forms between patients and their Ob/Gyn is truly special and for that I am grateful.
WHO KNEW: I make a pretty tasty chili, I lived in Belgium when I was in elementary school, and I was diagnosed with cancer when I was eighteen.
TRAVEL MEMORIES: I love to travel and have been fortunate enough to see and photograph many exotic locations. Most notable? African safari, India, and Thailand.
SOMEDAY I PLAN TO GO TO: Patagonia and Antarctica
THESE ARE SOME THINGS I DO IN MY SPARE TIME: I enjoy photography, hiking with my dogs Wilson and Maggie, and renovating my house – which seems to be in a perpetual state of (dis?)repair.
A REALLY BIG ACCOMPLISHMENT: Being named a Washingtonian TopDoc, buying my first home, and helping to build Bloom Ob/Gyn from the ground up.
FAVORITE BOOK: Anything by Erik Larson – he has a remarkable ability to weave factual history into a page-turning mystery.
FAVORITE TV SHOW: I’m a sucker for almost any HBO or Netflix series.
FAVORITE WORDS: Pomplemousse
FAVORITE QUOTE: “Fight Fiercely” – it’s a family motto coined by my grandfather
FAVORITE FOOD: Cheese!
WHAT SUPERPOWER WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO HAVE? To fly!
