Dr. Karen Blackburn is a board-certified OB/GYN who loves practicing medicine in the nation’s capital. Her decision to become a physician stems from a love of science, health, and the people around her. In college, with a strong basic science background, she developed a love for teaching others and the challenge of explaining her knowledge base more than anything else. She brings this enthusiasm to her work every day in the office and at Sibley Hospital.
Dr. Blackburn completed her undergraduate degree in Physics from Washington and Lee University followed by a medical degree at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Dr. Blackburn moved to Washington DC in 2010, where she completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the George Washington University Hospital. Her goal as a doctor is to make her patients feel comfortable and well informed about sensitive and challenging topics such as contraception, high risk pregnancy, fertility, and the many other health issues women face on a daily basis. She also loves attending “birthday parties” (aka deliveries) and provides exceptional care to all of her patients.
In her spare time, you may find her working in her garden, walking her dog, or shopping for the most perfect pair of shoes.
